INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY: AN IMPETUS TO REVIVE YOGIC INTELLIGENCE
International Recognition of YoGa as a methodology for holistic health and mind body harmony, has to be taken as a positive step to revive the System of YoGa beyond YoGaasanas. India will have to come out from the conventional notions by taking step to reinvent YoGa.
The System of YoGa was one of the first innovations of humanity to create well-structured and disciplined faculties to inculcate knowledge by grasping the existent, deriving the non-existent, thereby assimilating the entire cosmos to create a reservoir of Knowledge. YoGa is the culmination of the knowledge in its entirety irrespective of time, space and dimensions leading to the formation of a self-sustaining system of ethereal yet corporeal existence in transition. YoGa is the state of an indestructible form of radiant energy, independent of the physical parameters.
In 2014, the United Nations declared that 21 June would be observed as the International Yoga Day “Recognizing that yoga provides a holistic approach to health and well-being, recognizing also that wider dissemination of information about the benefits of practising yoga would be beneficial for the health of the world population” . The 12th International Yoga Day holds the theme- “Yoga for Healthy Ageing”.
Yoga is not a single and simple word or term. YoG’a was a terminology derived from a series of observations, studies and analysis of over long periods and was derived as a complex polysemous terminology. Difficulties arise in the understanding of such polysemous constructions mainly because of reading in correlation to the contemporary language and the understandings based on semantics or when read with cognitive or other new world concepts. Languages take over civilizations like waves of flood, washing off the precedent ones without leaving any trace. Human civilizations had encompassed several floods locally and globally, which includes changes in the astrophysical constellations and realignment of galaxies. Such phenomenal changes have taken place after the formal knowledge systems were developed in polysemous abstractions and codifications were formulated. The basic reference and assessments based on the present Samskrutam or Sanskrit somehow defeats both the assessments on the period of origin and the understanding.
At the time YoGa was devised as a system there were no crafty languages of today including Greek . Latin , Arabic, Brahmi , Apabhramsa or Samskrutam (Sanskrit). What can be derived out of the existing forms of Vedic Systems is about the existence of a complex system of “Dhwani”- a time based graphically structured algorithmic quantum energy release of sequential sonic plosions. From the art of communication in silence without language and words, the Dhwani system became an intricate segmentally interlaced note. In the most remote probabilities, the YoGic system cannot be construed to have been constructed along the lengthy Samskrutam verses as in various schemes available as on the date. These scriptures carry original modules of Dhwani as central to the verses. Later in the hands of linguists and ritualistic Brahminical scholasticism, every aspect became diluted and over a thousand years of foreign invasions, became totally reshaped into something strange and fictitious. During this period, rise of Monasticism and epic idolatry led to the perils of Rishi Traditions. India did not have a Rishi for the past 2 millennia or more. India fell into the folds of Eurocentric lines and concepts, while a large section fell into pro-Islamic halo of culture. Deliberate attempts to mask the reality on the cardinal foundations and societal ethos of India along theocentric definitions and portrayed every knowledge system of India as that of the Hindus. Freedom of India did not create an environment to redevelop the Indian Knowledge systems with contemporary reverence. Stiff resistance and evidence seeking intellectualism relying on invasive methodologies stood as a huge wall. Another class of Hindu Intelligentsia amalgamated every discipline , intercalated Vedic Streams with Puranas and created a major roadblock in rediscovering the original values. Various masters of divinity surfaced from time to time as self-styled godmen, babas and sadhus, took every aspect of the scriptures into their fold. Truth is that, there could not be another Dattatreya, Agasthya, Gorakhsha Nath and down the line. India did not see much scholastic pursuits of ingenuity after Shankaracharya.
After Independence, India could not do much to remove the misconceptions on the “Hindu” as a religion and “The Hindu” and a Knowledge System. The scriptures became reduced as hymns used in rites, ritual and Yajjna for Brahminical consumption. The country totally ignored the reality that the same serves as the template and substrate for deriving the inlaid knowledge systems. YoGanusaassanam or the YoGa sutra of Padthanjali too suffered from the same treatment.
YoGanusaassanam , widely known as the YoGa Sutra also became limited to such commentaries of religious and Monastic orders, and became reduced to Practices for physical and materialistic accomplishments. Within India, a new dialogue emerged with the UN Declaration of International YoGa Day, that it is of Hindu traditions while some religious minorities have raised concerns that the practice is contrary to their religious beliefs. After 12 years of UN declaration if such rudimentary thinking continues to haunt India, itself sounds paradoxical.
Until a new initiative begins somewhere in Europe or US to derive the scientific information lying dispersed in the YoGanusaassanam, India will remain submerged in the debates over the Sanskrit construction and the Hindu Religious pride of “Sanatana Dharma”. Recent debates and dialogues show that the genius of Indian values have misconstrued the very implications of Sanaa and Sanaataa which is centric to the YoGic Systeem,
The most commonly accepted meaning and illustration of Sanatana Dharma is that it is “eternal “ and “devoid of a Prophet or a religious leader”.
The principle of “Sanatana” originated at a period of Humanisation and development of human facilities where communication in the form of developed language systems were not developed. The abstract form of communication and complex nature of its formation has been dealt with in the context of Vedic system of letters. The origin of Sanatana is from the principles of "Agneyam “ of Brahmarishi Viswamitra, now found in the R’gK Veda. The probable elucidation of “Sn’ta” later on could have become expanded to Sa’naata and Sanaatana with the linguists overtaking the interpretations and commentaries of the Scriptures.
Sanatana -Sana Tana from the basic concept of time
Sana is period, or time
Tan- offsprings or children.
Tana is the succession in continuity.
Sanatana may be understood as the sum total of the values derived from the existentialism of successive generations of a Period that stabilized with societal values and became perpetual in succession. All postulates on Santana converge on “Sanataa” in Vedic Sphere of BrahmaRishi Vishwamitra in “Dharmani “sanataa na d’ddushat”.
All the streams of Indian Systems of Knowledge originated from Agneyam, which deals with energy and forces that led to the formation of particulate structures to “matter”. Sanaata is the accomplishment of Universality of human beings with the strength of a systematic life and practices which makes the place they dwell in Pradthu. In short , a topographical identity to the habitat was made through a quantitative characteristic based on Productivity of the land in relation to the people. The activity based characteristics thus was given within the the term Pradthu - Value and worthiness of Land came into the societal concept . Farming became organized and extended to include all the aspects of food production- Ratna. The three principles thus came into being on the Rat- the orientation for productive work, which later became Vrat- determination and somewhere in the for Vows. Rat gave rise to the quality called the Character or behavioral patterns. The part of the land where people live with the three characteristic Aahara, Aachara and rata (food, customs and Order in life) identities came to be denoted as Prudthvi ( Prithvi). That is where the Prudthu the land assumes or gets the power or strength and has to be carried on. So Prduthu in the Context of universality of Cosmic identity of humans i.e., Vaisvanaraya in relation to the habitat is defined as Prudthu. The functional name of the one of Seven Rishis in the context was therefore given as Prudhthu. The basic concept of ameliorating hunger from the society is attributed to Prudhu irrespective of the name found in several creations at various periods. In the Context of R’gK Vedic reference, it has to be taken as the first reference point of the beginning of societal orders and hence the Pradthu in the context of Sanaata has to be understood as the Prudthu belonging to the Tamasa Manvantara . With his contributions to the society, Prudthu is conjoined into the Group of Saptarishis of the Tamasa Manvatvarara, along with Jyoti Dharma, Chaitragni( Chaitra), Savana, Kavya(Kalpa), Pivara . Prudhu existed from the time the humanization had set in to motion from the period of systematized living.
It would require a decoding of the identical terminologies dispersed along different epochs in the Vedic system to understand the exact implication of each terminology. Vedic Dhwani formed the template which never underwent any change, but the transcriptions, translations, and new synthesis out of these basic dhwani by each school and lineages of the Rishis gave birth to a wide range of illustrations and understandings, Therefore the template Sanaata has to be read with the attributes that lead to the terminology. What lays the foundations in the times ahead is Vidh’anta Dharaneshu- forming the foundations of the human wisdom “Dha” and to be the order to be followed, which is integrated with “Duvasyatyadtha Dharmani” is “ sanaata”. Within the eternal (amruto) Principles of “Agni” (energy to matter ) constructed is Sanaata. Productive or industrious quality is the core foundation. Later during the Puranic periods (historicity of the City states or Puras and their transience) Sanaata became Sanatana.
Sanatana is not about Gods , idolatry, worship or beliefs of the People of a given Habitat, but it is about the faculties of the people, habits and the Societal order. It is not correct to infer or affirm that Sanatana began without leadership. Sanatana is a societal characteristic crystallised through the arduous efforts of the group of Sapta Rishis through successive epochs or Manvantaras. IN each period, the Saptarishis formed the central pillars of faculty development known , that gave a dimension and nomenclature to each manvantara and the interim periods. The names of Brahma Rishis and the subordinate classes were known by the nature of their contributions to the successive periods and those were reflections of the varying gradients of YoGic intellectualism.
The YoGic system forms an offshoot of Agneyam belonging to the lineage of Atri traditions. The Purpose and objective of YoGic system can be seen as the mechanism and systematics innovated to create self-sustaining Intellectual faculties with an integrated approach. Such infused intellect indoctrinated through a methodological synthesis forms the YoGic Intelligence , which is holistic and graphical in nature. So far, the commentators, mostly linguists, scholars and Monastic traditions have worked out only theocentric, philosophical and literary illustrations and commentaries with annotations from different scriptures and disciplines. YoGa Sutra , the YoGanusaassanam is a set of theories, methodologies and procedures in consonance with the Vedic Dhwanis set in an environment of sonic frequencies and acoustics. Theories and its explanations are spaced in geometric patterns that cannot be laid on a spreadsheet. It is evident from the broad spectrum of indicators on the social appropriation of technology and adaptive skills stratified across various segments of the Indian Society at any given point time.
Such a phenomenon in the Indian society is the result of Applied YoGic Intelligence of the sages who created the stratification during the organization of and creation of City States which became kingdoms and empires in the long turn of time and eventualities to the whatsoever remains as Bharat – the Republic of India. The Sages categorized and assorted the people based upon their physical characteristics and understanding abilities, thus creating a broad division of classes. Each of these classes were imparted with appropriate skills according to their intellectual capacities. Such skills became improvised and got new technical and creative dimensions through successive generations. More and more divisions came with the advancement of new trades and disciplines by the successive lineages. The Indigenous people of such a progression constituted Sanatana. Each class and its subdivisions represented gene pools with identical characteristics and expressions. After intermittent periods, the trade and professionalism became inherent traits of the genetic inheritance. The traditional workmanship and trades thus became grouped into four broader classes forming a well-structured demographic stratification patter of the city states and its perpetual succession firmed up the Varna system
The system of Varna based on the progression from the base plank of the Shudras eventually began to degenerate under the spell of invasions and decaying tendencies with the consolidation of wealth and powers. No efforts were made to revive the transitions in the castes based on knowledge and other acquired faculties. In the hands of colonial and leftist historians and social scientists together with the socialist and secularist political ideologies the social system of India was given a different colour and dimensions.. Interpretations and explanations with narratives of hostilities were strewn across to establish hegemonial dominance. It is against this backdrop that religious minorities and some segments among the Hindus themselves create a Hindutva colour to the System of YoGa.
In such a turbulent socio-political environment, YoGa fell into the hands of religious and monastic institutions leading to catachresis of YoGa as Yog and Yogam.
‘Yog’ is totally a different terminology which emerged from the treatises of Sankhya ( Samkya) and the philosophies to indicate the integrated phenomenon of male and female integrals. The physical existence in the form of body and the spiritual element of the Aatman- the self within the self that is formless. Yog in Sankhya concept is broad based and it does not in any way become interlinked with YoGa.
Yogam has its roots from the Hora Sastras. Ganita and astronomical treatises. The positional value in terms of Dik Sankhya ( values with direction – Vectors) and Vasu Sankya ( Scalar, planar) led to the development of Yogams or cumulative effects. Nava (9) Sam Yogams , Trigunita nav Samyagams ( multiples of 3) led to the development of 4 basic Yogams of Akriti (Shape), Samkhya (numerals) , Aashraya ( dependent) and Dala ( corollary) Yogam. These terminologies and systems were developed much later , in recent periods.
The reference of YoGa in the Vedic systems and the epics do not mean that these systems were developed during those periods. Indian systems took shape with the development of the YoGic systems and its Siddhis that can be called as YoGic Intelligence.
Padthanjali system is YoGa and is the composite system to create faculties for humans as a “self-sustaining independent intellectual system”. YoGic Intelligence is the most complex system of Information gathering, data analysis , interpretation and synthesis at the fastest possible pace and time. The Prognosis and self-correcting and adaptive mechanics form the most integrated mechanics of Intellectual faculties which can take into its fold myriads of parameters. The western Schools of Management and Information Technology Development faces theoretical failures as they could not create such self-sustaining intelligence faculties.

INDIA NEEDS A CENTRALISED FORENSIC ENGINEERINFG AGENCY
NEED A FORENSIC ENGINEERING AGENCY
The Chief Minister of Delhi has stated that all the fourth floors of Delhi buildings will be sealed and the adjoining buildings , next to the collapsed building, would be demolished.
It is the time for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to give a wakeup call to MoH UA , Ministry of Law and Justice and MHA to put their heads together to create a law and Law enforcement system on the construction of buildings in the country. The foremost requirement for the Government is the need to assess the violations in the specifications on the strength of Concrete structures, including that of Building materials as well as hygienic living conditions The three Ministries may have to initiate the process of setting up a National Structural Engineering Forensic Department and Laboratory. In a technically progressive country, the Government cannot rely on academic considerations and Private services for assessments. A Stringent regulatory structure can be instituted only if the enforcement mechanism has a technical assessment and evaluation mechanism. A Vigilance section under such a system would conduct periodic assessment of buildings and the living conditions and can recommend time to time corrective measures. But it is for the Government to see that people are not harassed and such an arrangement does not create a space for bribery and corruption.
The Judiciary in such matters may have to examine the flaws and failures in the technical specifications and parameters of the structures as a criminal aspect. The death caused by the structural collapse cannot be taken as a culpable act of murder or negligence. The buildings are not weapons; the owners of the building have no third eye or gadgets to assess the structural weakness that occurs to buildings over a period of time. Equally as the Government machinery sleeps over a volcano, the building owners sleep in the cosiness of the cushion provided by the government. It is not an acceptable norm that the Government wakes up from the slumbering sleep over the noise and shock of a catastrophic incident, axes few officials and orders sealing and demolitions. It can only be said to be an irrational action.
The governments have to be technically sound and justified in their actions while dealing with manmade structures. Education has been redefined with Vocational training together with skill and capacity building schemes, The country has a separate Ministry for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. It is not certain whether the Vocational Training facilities in the schools under the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Skill Development have joint formulations. Out of 1, 3 lac crore budgetary provision for Education in the current budget, how much would be spent on vocational training. It would have been a better possibility if some share of the 9,886 crore in the present budget for capacity building is invested in vocational training, The country will not have drop outs. The country would have qualified masons, construction labourers, carpenters, farm labourers and skilled artisans. Why should everyone study regular arts, science and commerce subjects to avail Secondary and Higher Secondary qualifications? Vocational Training can be elevated to get secondary and Higher secondary Certificates without written examinations, that is how the country in the coming decades have to transform.
If such qualified skilled workers enter into construction and the building material sectors, they would be well versed with the strength of materials and quality specifications.
Delhi and the satellite cities fall under class IV seismic Zone. After the Chamoli earthquake in 1999 several specifications were introduced in the Reinforced Concrete Structures, building materials, composition of mortar along with other structural specifications and standards.
The walls of the building in a row in Delhi are brick line contact structures with no plastering or waterproofing in between. The water seepage and withering aggravated by free Lime reaction has drastically reduced the life of such structures. Most of the buildings in the organised colonies of Delhi, set up to accommodate the refugees have become outdated crossing the life expectancy of concrete structures. Yet, some have added two and three floors above the original Structures, without considering the strength of the foundations ratio to the height ,without proper pile structures to hold the raised access floors . Imbalances in the weight distribution have added failures with the over weight added by improper mounting of Air Conditioners.
Delhi has 369 recognised villages, and more than half of them have been urbanised. Over the past 20- 30 years, these villages have made disproportionate growth with compact new additions rising above the specifications. Can the Government of Delhi or Union of India deny that nearly or over more than half of Delhi Sleeps on "False Floors"?
Most of the old Villages in Delhi grew up with the rising influx of candidates for NEET, other JEEs, Civil Service coaching and Foreign Medical Graduates Examination, apart from new aspirants for jobs . Over 15 new educational institutions sprouted in Delhi after the 1990s, following the IT Rush. Most of these institutions did not have inhouse hostel facilities. Preference to Delhi over other satellite cities is mainly due to the Policing system and societal mindset. Incidence of societal and racial shaming and violent incidents in Delhi has become comparatively marginal by mid 1990s. All these factors account for the rising pressure on accommodation in Delhi.
The country has Tenancy Acts. But do not have standard specifications for renting accommodations. Unified Bylaws of Delhi Develop Authority in 2016 had come with specifications on the construction and other mandatory components for sanctions. It should not have been the end. Rentals constitute a people to people relationship, that do not have any official interactions and approvals. But the Government has to enforce security, safety and healthy living conditions, with proper ventilation, water supply, and hygienic indoor conditions. The Floor, air conditioning, refrigerator, water filters and day light efficiency are to be considered among the minimum facilities and Standards of Rental Accommodation. Many Studio apartments have been re modelled converting two and three bedrooms -like cellular jails with inmates above the holding capacity and in gross violation of the standards of Air Change Per Hour. Most of the buildings have low cost -all weather coatings or paintings that over a period releases micro particles that affects the breathing and pulmonary health of infants to senior citizens. Almost all buildings before 1980 to 2000 would be sick buildings , unsuitable for living. The governments are yet to give consideration for setting up Indoor Climate Standards.
In the event of an earthquake of catastrophic proportion or fire incident , the rescue missions cannot get easy access through the by lanes with a lineup of parked vehicles. The country has a NDMA that has to be vigil and vigilant to recommend the government on laws and policies required to eliminate manmade disasters . If a catastrophic incident to the proportion of Bhopal, Latur or Morbi occurs , do we have preparedness to contain the situation in a couple of minutes and hours. Even by now early warning systems for evacuation , evacuation plans and safe area advisories seems to be not in place. Fire Force departments should have directions periodic reviews of indoor and common area firefighting units and their efficiency and wiring load to bearing assessments for electrical circuits,

THIRD POLE DYNAMICS: SAVE SOUTH ASIA FROM PERIL
Himalayan - Hindukush-Tibetean Glacier Systems
Intention of this paper is to point out the need for a collective effort of the countries falling under the Himalayan Glacier and drainage system. The main three nations India , China and Pakistan have a huge trust deficit and military driven interests which has become a major concern of regional stability and Peace. Both China and Pakistan are not taking into cognisance the long term imperatives of geological impact by the way of combat equations supportive of each other towards their revanchist designs on India, Though the concentration of the glacial formations are more towards the Tibetan side, yet, world has limited access to the natural calamities happening in the region. The whole Himalayan Region of a vast landscape of 50 lac Sq. km, of which consists of over one lac sq.km stretch of Glaciers was coined the name “Third Pole” by Marcel Kurz in 1933. The drainage system of the Third Pole is the mainstay of food security, economic growth and forms the life line of the biotic system of over ten countries directly and a few more countries. Hindu Kush ranges cannot be seen in isolation, in the hydrological system of Sistan Basin. Hamoun Wetlands connecting Afghanistan and Iran cannot be treated in isolation from the Himalayan system. The stability of the human race though the inconsistencies in the climatic conditions in Asia and parts of Europe is attributed by the Himalayan system, extending from Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, and Myanmar and further down to Thailand , Vietnam and Cambodia, besides China India and Pakistan.
A new initiative took off in Beijing in 2009 under the auspices of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Institute of Tibetan Plateau Research. The first Third Pole Environment Workshop drew up participants from as many as 15 countries China, India and Pakistan are the core members of the Third Pole Environment programmes together with the regional Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. Over the years, many countries joined the scientific partnership programmes viz. Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and the United States.
This marked the beginning of an integrated approach on the environmental changes and sustainability of the Himalayan and the North Pole glacier systems. From Beijing 2009 to Reykjavík, Iceland in 2011 TPE opened up yet another phase in the global initiatives towards the Glacier systems. Though the New Delhi edition of 2011 was shifted to Dehradun in 2013, an effort towards a Comprehensive Climate Assessment Report was set into motion. Third Pole Environment dialogues and partnerships widened with the active entry of the UAE Government and in 2022, became an integral part of the COP27 in Egypt.
Glaciers of the Himalayas rising above 12,000 feet pose several challenges in the process to assess their dynamics and threat factors. Nearly 267 large formations of 10sq. Km and above are critical ones. India has tracked as many as 9,575 glacier lakes . On the Western side of the Himalayas, the Hindukush ranges spanning across 60,000 sq. km nearly one tenth of the area are glacier formations numbering over 54,252 glaciers. The vastness and the operational environmental system of this glacier system might have prompted researchers like Jack Ives and Bruno Messerli to consider Hindukush Glacier system as the “Water Tower of Asia”
In the eastern sector, as many as Two Hundred or more pose the potential risk of creating flood havocs. The oldest reports on Glacier Outbursts in India is of the 1926 Chong Kumdan Glacier of Ladakh region of the erstwhile Princely state of the Dogras. Though clear scientific data may not have been worked out, the Glacier was said to have created a barrage that blocked the drainage of the Shyok River. In October, the snow melt created a high pressure lake system that is said to have accounted for the Glacier Lake outburst. The Cirenmaco Glacial Lake outburst in 1981 subsequent to an avalanche breached the moraine ridge emptying as many as 200 lac cubic meters of water to the Bhote and Sun Koshi drainages. ChoraBari lake outburst of Uttarakhand in 2013 and the Nepal GLOF in August 2026 happened during the monsoons.
Time and again, it has been observed that Glaciers on the eastern side of the Himalayas in the Indo Tibetan region are prone to outbursts and flash floods. Yet, the revanchist designs of Pakistan and China pose a major hindrance to have active coordinated research and satellite data sharing. India is said to have only 46 meteorological observation stations in the Himalayan region. Partly the data would be contributed by the Defence Geoinformatics Research Establishment . The Establishment has established stations in Kashmir and Ladakh for gathering information on avalanches. Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment together with the Geo Informatics Establishment accrues a larger role in the area with respect to the stability of Siachen Glaciers.
Academic research has figured that the Himalayan segment of Arunachal Pradesh has lost as many as 110 glaciers between 1998 and 2020 reducing the total numbers to 646. The state has enlisted 27 glacier Lakes in the High Risk Category 16 in the Dibang Valley. Anjaw 3, Tawang 6 , Shi Yomi and Kurung Kumey have one Glacier lake. Eastern segments of the Himalayas have uneven rainy conditions throughout the year. Except for the little time between April to May or some times with a couple of weeks difference in the both ends, the Gorichen ranges experience intermittent precipitations. The shifting glacier lakes could be a natural phenomenon. Secondary snowfall and formations of glacier lakes often are unstable formations that slide off leaving dry dykes caused by abrasions. There have been growing concerns about the anomalous snowmelt in the Khangri Glaciers. Disappearance of Glacier lakes if ,are to be taken as a permanent disaster, it would take observation over a transient period of Climatic Condition.
In 2023 October, South Lohanak Glacier breaching led to flash floods in Sikkim. The state has 40 Glacier Lakes, 16 of them anticipated to be of catastrophic impact in the outbursts.
The exact number of Glacier lakes in Himachal Pradesh has shown random growth in numbers during the past three decades totalling around 109 with 12 of them being placed in the high risk category.
Uttarakhand has 1,200 Glacier lakes of which 13 fall under the high risk category.
Major tributaries of the Indus River – Ravi, Beas, Chenab are Sutlej fed by the glaciers of Himachal Pradesh. All major river systems of India originate from Uttara Khand .
Kashmir and Ladakh constitute the larger Glacier system of approximately 18, 000 Glaciers along the Pir Panjal, Zanskar. Ladakh ranges. Kashmir has 540 and Ladakh 3,200 Glacier lakes. Details about the glacier lake systems of Aksai chin are not known except for the 129 glaciers and Aksay Qin Lake.
All the Himalayan -Hindukush Glacier systems have cross border linkage and the Glacier lake outbursts will affect one or more countries. For the people living in the direct impact zones, the first layers are mostly not proficient to understand the technological terms and to interpret the satellite data. The military and commercial interests of the countries on either side of the Himalayan system can be disastrous in the coming years. Thermal devices of high intensity in the region, nuclear tests and large reservoirs have an impact on the glacier systems.
Amidst the global concerns on the acceleration of snowmelt in the Himalayan-Hindukush region, the stability of the Cryosphere should be taken up as the collective responsibility of the member nations of the Third Pole Environment. ‘Glacier Retreat’ should not be taken by the governments as a mere academic theorization, but it would be leading to disastrous spells that would pose severe challenges to the South Asian countries. Apart from the impact on food production, the governments will have to face huge costs for damage controls, natural catastrophes and disasters , which would create a negative trend in the economic growth in the coming two decades and ahead. None of the countries have incorporated these concerns in to the planning process, except for a passing remark and some thinking in the context of global Climate Change. Education, life style and the technological initiatives would require a random shift in the paradigms to create a comfortable governance with minimal impact on the day today living of the largest segment of the global human population.
