DOCTRINE OF YOGA PART VII

DOCTRINE OF YOGA PART VII

14. भवप्रत्ययो विदेहप्रकृतिलयानाम्|

“Bhava Pratyayo Videha Prakruti Layaanaam”

'Roopam Parama Purusham PraJjnaat Samskara' is the stages in the systematic development of structure and faculties are the preliminary stages in process of transcend in YoGa. The process transformation and culmination of the desired characteristics is the process of evolution in the human state in to ultimate form.

The very first theory of the Genetic Sciences is inscribed in the Doctrine of YoGa is” Roopa Anugatamaatma Sam praJjnaat Samskara Sesho Anya.

Structure and expressions (Roopa) are inherited (Anugama) within the self contained (Aatma) information system (PraJjnaat). As in (“रूपानुगमात्सम्प्रज्ञातः")

Here, a clear line is drawn between mysticism, spirituality and Science.  Terminologies are often illustrated in the way of mysticism or spirituality that takes along divine and philosophical angles. This approach has always masked the scientific base of every Sruti or Pre Vedic and Vedic works of India.

Roopa Anugamam aatma PraJjnaat is that “Characters and structural changes form a part of the information system and are inherited.”  Expression of characteristics when is followed by a change in terms of morphological, anatomical structure and or physiological functions (Roopam), that forms a part of the information system (PraJjna). PraJjna. Through regular and systematic approach, the process sets into temporal operation and becomes a part of inheritance together with the pre-existent. ( संस्कारशेषोऽन्यः). It does not add to the extended length of the information content, instead it activates a new  sequence of information from the existing system. The definition is clear that an addition of an information of the inheritance does not elongate or make any change in the the system, instead it adds a new expression in the process. Pra JJa-Na- per unit of information content. Jj- denoes the genetic  system. Ja configures the prefix for:-

Janam, the genetic pool that is oten used to denote people and population of a place.

Janmam – birth  that denotes continuity of a lineage.

Janani- Mother, the carrier of succession of genetic base.

Jeeva- Life,  Process of the temporal operation of the generic system.

Janayu – Ya"Jj"opaveetam, the holy thread is indicative of the thread of genes.

Janyam  -Variant of a genetic system

Jjnaanam is the knowledge that is held in succession through lineages.

YoGa Anusaasanam folows the Schemes of 'Tat" and "Dhi" of the Gayatri propounded by Kaushika.  Tat' constitutes the system of resonances integrated with resonance in a system of progression.  Kaushika affixed constant values for resonances in a scale of progression of values from one (1) to eight(8). the next order of Nine (9) and multiples of nine is carried over to the next order of progression.

A  value affixed for a Sound remains contant and can be expressed with the same value in any  number of Digits. Kaushika Progression encoded in Gayatri laid the structuring of sound to Alphabets with constant numerical values. This system positions resonances to sub segments( Upa Khandam), segments (Khandam) and to the final structure of Alphabets. An Alphabet in the sruti system is a  gemetric representaion drawn  along the axis of time and numerical Values termed as "Aksharam". Use of gestures, movement of head to gether with hands provides another dimension to the  Aksharam. Sruti format is rendered by definitive number of persons  in a formation that  provides another dimension to the  pattern of  Aksharam. All the works that fall in the  group of Sruti  from Vedas onwards have such an extensive system of expression. This renders expression of every "Aksharam" to  carry a an array of  information or data that can run into volumes. Alphabets as in other languages and Aksharam of the Sruti format  have a vast difference. Aksharam of the Sruti format differs from the Alphabetic system of all other languages. Samskrutam ( Sanskrit) is the only language that is developed to transcribe and translate the Sruti format).

The system of expression with numerical values affixed for resonance in graphic format, the Aksharam provides enough space to incorporate large volumes of data. Every sub segment and segments of resonances that configures a sound, with an affixed numerical value is the first compressed data system used in the Vedas followed by other Sruti formats. The schematic pattern of Vedas and other works in Sruti format may have marked differences, but will have the scheme encoded within it. Here, in Yoga Sutra, the identity of Pathanjali is encoded in the first verse itself, together with the Scheme in which information content is encoded.

YoGa Anusaasanam follows the Kaushika system of Gayatri and  is to create faculties for realising the technical subjects encoded in the Vedas. This process is set into motion with development of PraJjna. PraJjna is the statein which the knowledge base gets incorporated into the genetic system. The process does not make any structural changes in the genes, but activates the sequences that carry the information on the inheritence that is termed as Samskara. The process therefore are self acquired and incorporated into the genetic system. System of YoGa, therefore, is not primarily linked to the  Neural functions, but is complements the genetic system, thus is a process of complete transformation into a human being with a marked difference and identiy that is :-

. भवप्रत्ययो विदेहप्रकृतिलयानाम्|

“Bhava Pratyayo Videha Prakruti Layaanaam”

BhaVa- every unit time of the rotation of earth – a transformation in totality, coming into existence,

Pratyayo’- fundamental Notion

Videh- consumed or destroyed, devoid of body, excluding the body

Vid- acquiring , Deh- Manifestation of form of physical structure.

Prakruti- template, nature, producers of elements, coefficient multiplier,

Layanam- adheres to, dissolve.

Transformation in totality is a fundamental notion that excludes manifestations of the physical form adhering to the templates.

Bhava, or whatever one in the transformed state is a permanent feature round the clock (Bha= 24 hrs) or every unit time (Va = 60, every minute). The transformation in the template system induced by PraJjna activates a time based action. The notion here is that such temporal actions of the templates do not have any impact on the physical structure, but on every expression that forms a part of the characteristics in reciprocation with nature. Such a transformation in the template is acquired character and becomes a part of the expression of the templates. Samskara or inheritance thus is explained based on generic theory.

Cardinal foundation of the YoGa Sutra is founded on the principles of inheritance. YoGa does not create a change in the genetic or physical structure instead activates the segments of the genes that are responsible for the inheritance of characters. The change brought about is functional, where by the template is activated to produce such information that produce characteristic changes in the overall expression. The templates do not undergo any structural change, but the system of information release becomes a part of the characteristic feature and is transferred to successive generation. “Roopanugamam Atama SamPraJnnat is the Notion of inheritance of acquired information is effectuated through the activation of a new pattern of coding without any genotypic or phenotypic structural changes.

Brhma Rishis (Sgaes of the highest intellectual order born conceived in the mind of Brahma) had analyzed population dynamics and characteristic features and the continuity of expressions in successive generations. As these sages ventured into organizing human beings into a settled life, these genetic characteristics formed the criteria for distribution of labor. Such a demographic classification paved way for skill development. Aptitude for modification and diversification of each trade thus became a part of the genetic inheritance in each demographic division. Such communities developed cohesiveness and became identified as a Caste. A caste is a gene pool of skills and mastery. Potters, black smiths, gold smiths, peasants, artisans, educationists to scavengers thus got identified as castes. Such an exhaustive engineering of Genetic Sciences stems out from the systematic practices of advanced faculties that is central to YoGa. Ultimately, all process lead to induce such inherent changes in the Self that merges with the nature and becomes a part of nature. This leads to continuity in successive generations as inheritance that is Samskriti that becomes operational with the development of PraJjna.

And so:

15. श्रद्धावीर्यस्मृतिसमाधिप्रज्ञापूर्वक इतरेषाम्|

SraDdha Veerya’ Smriti Samadhi PraJjnapoorvak Iteireshaam.

Sradha- Sra- Dha. Listening and Thought, convergence of thought that creates

“Veerya”- energy. Listening is a receptive process that awakens and activates thoughts, generates powers to imagine, restructure, think and rethink again and again, draw inferences and open up avenues to new dimensions. Such a change generates an inherent energy that ultimately gets infused into stream of  life as “Smriti”.

Smriti- rendered by a Sage that is heard and memorized . The process is annealing, as the listening is a timed process in a specific environment learning, thus was confined to natural ambience, deep in the forests. Sages established “ Saalas’ or Scholastic centers,  Each such centers had a systematic approach in setting a rhythm of life, and tuning to systematize life and its normal functions.

Smriti is a chain system of sequential progression of development of faculties whereby understanding, analysis and reciprocation are simultaneous process.

Numerical value of Smriti is 18, Smriti induces 18 traits ,  which configures inheritance from the ancestral lineages.  Smriti

Samadhi- equal, balanced (sama) , adhi ( adhering or joining), Dhi- Budhi (intelligence)and Siddhi .  Smriti  is Buddhi and Sruti is Siddhi.

Buddhi comprises of all thoughts and intellectual acquisitions  where as Siddhi constitutes the elevated powers perception and transgression into any area to gather  information. When these two faculties are brought into a state equilibrium the inner self, viz., the soul or Atma will enter into a state of tranquility and blissfulness. Samadhi is therefore, a state of equilibrium between perceptions that are subdued activities of the self and assimilated within the inner self with that   acquired through sensory Organs. The sensory organs involve (i) Eyes (Darshanam), (2)Ears (Sravanam), (3)Touch (Sparshanam) as well as (4) trials, analysis, diagnosis and experimentation (Pareeksha). Although, Nose, the olfactory senses (Ghranam) also play a vital role, it is included in the Pareeksha, as smell is a part of the physical observation.

Thus, Samadhi is the process of developing an equilibrium between these two fundamental faculties by integrating and affixing of positional values of every knowledge. Samadhi is the realization and sets in the dynamics of acquired faculties into a temporal operation, Sequential progression in Samadhi leads to PraJJna and hence, PraJjna Porrvak.

PraJjna – state of faculties in a Perfect Human( Param Purusha)

Poorvak – prior to

Samadhi is the state Prior to PraJjna ( Prajjna Poorvak). Samdhi requires extensive development of all the four functions of the sensory organs and the powers of perception of the inner Self.  It is  reestablishes  Sabda  Jjnana anupaati Va’stu  Soonyo  Vikalpa (शब्दज्ञानानुपाती वस्तुशून्यो विकल्पः)  and Drushtaanu Sravika Vishaya VithrushnNasya Vaseekara SaNg.Jjna Vairagyam (दृष्टानु श्रविकविषयवितृष्णस्य वशीकारसञ्ज्ञा वैराग्यम्|) as in part 1 and 4 of this series.

“Drusta anu Sravika” is the process of perceptive powers, where by the human faculties attain power to extrapolate the energy based system of sound and light.

Itara- Mother of Atreya, Knowledge of inheritance stems up from Sage Atri to Itara, mother of Atreya, the lineage of the schools of Charaka. Modern Ayurveda stems up from Atri, and Pathanjali schools addresses the theory of inheritance and the understanding of 18 traits from Atri, who was a brahma Rishi, who was a part of the school of creation of Brahma. It is established here that genetic basis of life was an innovation of Atri, and it was introduced into the system of medicine , Ayurveda by the lineages of Itara.  Ptanjali Mharishi from whom the basics of YoGa Sootra originated was the Son of Anasuya Devi and Brahmarishi Atri.

Theory of inheritance and knowledge on genetic basis of inheritance dates back to the First Manvantara to which the Sage Atri belongs to. Patanjali Mahrshi also belongs to the same  Manvantara. Every Manvantara  has to be considered as the  period  of transition in the  human faculties of (i) thought, (2) analysis, (3) interpretation,(4) recognition, (5)understanding, (6) memory, (7) communication, (8) reaction, emotional control of (9) anger (10) joy ,(11)agony (12) Pain, (13) happiness, societal responses of behaviour (ethics), (14)  respect, (15) love , (16) honesty , (17) co operation and (18) skills of livelihood. These traits are inherited through successive generations.

Esham- ‘Others besides’.

Itaresham here,  is ‘as sought from others besides Itara’.  .  Verse 2 had the reference to Itara- Tada Drushtu Swaroope Avasthaanam Vrutti Saaroopyam Itaratra (तदा द्रष्टुः स्वरूपेऽवस्थानम्,वृत्तिसारूप्यमितरत्र॥ ).

‘Itaratra’, and ‘Itaresham’ are two expressions that needs to be looked into. Itaratra is confining to Itara where as Itaresham includes that all has stemmed out or bifurcated from Itara. It does not include any work that is outside the lineage of Itara. Esham confers what ever in this series as a cohesive composite structure that confines to the lineage of Itara, while Itaratra confines to ‘whatsoever’ confines to the lineage of Itara.  These two expressions clearly establish that YoGa is developed during the period between Anasuya Devi and Itara. This period is significant in the systematic grouping and categorization of six major braches of Ayurveda. Pathanjali Maharishi here takes cognizance of the systems developed others besides Itara in the processes leading to Samadhi.  Earlier, in Verse 2, for the evaluation of the physical state and its functional states, the methodology to develop powers of vision is confined to Itara. The diagnostic process of Ayurveda, Darshanam is the analysis of the Biogenic Energy field and its interception with that the energy field of the sage.  The energy dealt in “Sraddha Veer yam” is in reference to the Biogenic Energy that is developed through Sraddha.
